Spiderman Total Overhaul - Maguire and Dunst won't return as lead roles

The 4th installment of the web slinging franchise Spiderman is set to return, but the movie will have a total overhaul, from the leading character of Peter Parker to the director itself.

Yes, Tobey Maguire who played Peter Parker from the 1st to 3rd movie franchise will not return as Spiderman, and Kirsten Dunst who played Mary Jane Watson, the love interest of Peter Parker. Movie director Sam Raimi also will not be directing the Spiderman 4. "Working on the 'Spider-Man' movies was the experience of a lifetime for me," said Raimi, who directed all three "Spider-Man" films, also said in a statement Monday. "While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced Monday that a new "Spider-Man" film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on Peter Parker in high school would debut in the summer of 2012 with a new cast and filmmaking team.

As for Tobey Maguire, "I am so proud of what we accomplished with the 'Spider-Man' franchise over the last decade," he said in a statement Monday. "Beyond the films themselves, I have formed some deep and lasting friendships. I am excited to see the next chapter unfold in this incredible story."

Sony Pictures will announce on the coming weeks about the next Spiderman movie.
